- Choose the correct review content format.
- Avoid random or low-value content topics.
- Build connected Shopify app content clusters.
- Prioritize topics based on opportunity and available resources.

These activities will be covered in separate SOPs.
4. Expected Output
At the end of this SOP, the team must have:
- An approved Shopify app category.
- A validated content topic.
- A selected content format.
- A confirmed list of apps to evaluate.
- A defined primary audience and search intent.
- A completed topic priority score.
- A clear content-cluster relationship.

| Shopify Researcher | Review app availability, features, popularity, testability, and merchant relevance |
| Shopify Expert or Developer | Confirm technical relevance and whether the app can be properly evaluated |
| Content Lead | Confirm that the topic can support useful and differentiated content |
| Project Manager | Assign owners, deadlines, statuses, and dependencies in ClickUp |
| Project Lead or Head of SEO | Approve, reject, or request changes to the topic |
| Business Development Lead | Identify founder relationship or partnership potential where relevant |
One person may perform multiple roles during the validation phase, but each responsibility must still be completed.
6. Required Tools
The team may use:
- Shopify App Store
- Shopify development store
- Google Search
- Google Search Console
- Google Analytics
- Ahrefs, Semrush, or another keyword research tool
- Google Sheets or Airtable
- ClickUp
- Blinto’s internal Shopify app knowledge base
- App company websites and documentation
7. Required Templates
The following templates must be available:
- Shopify App Category Research Sheet
- App Selection Sheet
- Topic Validation Scorecard
- Content Cluster Map
- ClickUp Task Template
- Topic Approval Checklist
8. Process Trigger
This SOP begins when one of the following occurs:
- A new Shopify app category is identified.
- The content calendar requires a new topic.
- The team discovers an app with strong search or partnership potential.
- A merchant problem suggests a useful review topic.
- An existing category article requires supporting app reviews.
- A single app review creates an opportunity for a comparison article.
- The project lead requests a new review cluster.
- Performance data shows that an existing category should be expanded.
9. Entry Requirements
Before starting topic selection, confirm:
- The topic is related to Shopify apps.
- The topic supports Blinto’s Shopify positioning.
- The team has access to basic SEO research tools.
- The app or category is currently active.
- The team can access enough public information to evaluate the opportunity.
- The topic is not already assigned, published, or planned.
- The suggested topic fits the current validation or publishing target.
If these conditions are not met, the topic should not move forward.
10. Complete Workflow
Step 1: Select a Shopify App Category
The SEO Strategist begins by identifying a Shopify app category that solves a meaningful merchant problem.
Possible categories include:
- Product reviews and UGC
- Upsell and cross-sell
- Dropshipping
- Email and SMS marketing
- Subscriptions
- Loyalty and referrals
- Page builders
- SEO
- Customer support
- Analytics and reporting
- Shipping and fulfillment
- Inventory management
- Product bundles
- Returns management
- Affiliate marketing
- B2B and wholesale
- Product personalization
- Store design
- Conversion optimization
Category Evaluation Questions
The strategist should answer:
- What merchant problem does this category solve?
- Is the category relevant to a large or valuable merchant segment?
- Are merchants actively comparing apps in this category?
- Does the category connect with Blinto’s services?
- Can the category support multiple related content pieces?
- Are there enough credible apps to review?
- Can the team test or properly research the apps?
Output
A category name and a short explanation of why it should be considered.
Step 2: Validate Business Relevance
The category must support at least one Blinto business objective.
Business Relevance Areas
- Shopify app development
- Shopify app marketing
- Shopify app support and maintenance
- Shopify app UX improvement
- Shopify app integration
- Shopify merchant consulting
- Shopify ecosystem partnerships
- App founder relationships
- Internal Shopify knowledge development
Business Relevance Question
How could this topic help Blinto attract, educate, or build relationships with Shopify merchants or app founders?
Approval Requirement
The category must have a clear relationship with Blinto’s positioning. Categories with high traffic potential but no meaningful business connection should receive lower priority.
Step 3: Research Search Demand and Intent
The SEO Strategist must evaluate whether people are searching for information about the category or app.
Research Areas
- Primary keyword
- Secondary keywords
- App name plus “review”
- App name plus “pricing”
- App name plus “alternative”
- App A versus App B
- “Best Shopify apps for” keywords
- Merchant questions
- Search result competition
- Search intent
- Content freshness
- Existing ranking pages
Search Intent Types
| Content Format | Main Search Intent |
|---|---|
| Category review | Compare several apps and create a shortlist |
| Single app review | Evaluate one app before installing or purchasing |
| Comparison article | Choose between two specific apps |
Important Rule
Search volume must not be the only decision factor.
A topic with low reported search volume may still be valuable when it has:
- Strong commercial relevance
- Clear merchant intent
- Limited high-quality competition
- App founder partnership potential
- Strong long-tail keyword opportunities
Output
A short keyword and search-intent summary.
Step 4: Select the Content Format
The team must choose one of three formats.
Format A: Category or Bulk Review
Choose this format when:
- Users want to compare several apps.
- The category has multiple credible products.
- A broad keyword opportunity exists.
- Blinto needs a central page for a content cluster.
- The topic can support recommendations for different merchant needs.
Example:
Best Shopify Review Apps
Format B: Single App Review
Choose this format when:
- The app has strong brand recognition.
- Merchants actively search for an independent review.
- The app is important within an existing category article.
- Blinto can provide deeper testing or evaluation.
- The app founder may be strategically relevant.
Example:
Judge.me Review
Format C: Comparison Article
Choose this format when:
- Two apps directly compete.
- Users commonly compare the apps.
- The apps serve similar use cases.
- The differences can be explained clearly.
- The search intent is close to a final decision.
Example:
Judge.me vs Loox
Content Format Decision Rule
Use the following order when building a new cluster:
- Category review
- Supporting single app reviews
- Relevant app comparison articles
This order may change when a single app or comparison topic has unusually strong opportunity.
Step 5: Select the Apps
The Shopify Researcher and SEO Strategist must create an initial app list.
App Selection Criteria
Evaluate each app based on:
- Shopify App Store availability
- Category relevance
- Main use case
- Merchant adoption
- Rating
- Review count
- Pricing
- Free plan or trial availability
- Feature quality
- App maturity
- Integrations
- Documentation
- Merchant feedback
- Founder or company credibility
- Search demand
- Testability
- Partnership potential
- Relevance to Blinto’s services
Category Review App Count
A category review should usually include:
- 5–10 apps during the validation phase
- 8–15 apps after the process has been validated
The final number should depend on search intent and content usefulness, not a fixed word count.
Single App Review Requirement
A single app should only be selected when the team can provide enough depth to create a useful standalone review.
Comparison Requirement
Apps selected for comparison must solve a similar problem. Avoid comparing apps that serve different primary use cases simply because both are popular.
Step 6: Check App Testability and Evidence Availability
Before approving the topic, determine whether the team can properly evaluate the selected app.
Check for:
- Development store installation access
- Free plan or free trial
- Product demo
- Public documentation
- Help center
- App screenshots
- Pricing information
- Changelog
- Merchant reviews
- Integration documentation
- Support access
- Case studies
- Video demonstrations
Evidence Status
Each app should receive one of these labels:
| Status | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Testable | The team can install and test the app |
| Partially Testable | Some features can be tested, but paid or advanced features are restricted |
| Research Only | The review must rely on public information and merchant feedback |
| Insufficient Evidence | The app should not be selected yet |
Apps marked Insufficient Evidence should not proceed without project lead approval.
Step 7: Map the Topic to a Content Cluster
Every topic must connect with a broader Shopify app content structure.
Example Cluster
Category page
- Best Shopify Review Apps
Single app reviews
- Judge.me Review
- Loox Review
- Yotpo Review
- Okendo Review
Comparison articles
- Judge.me vs Loox
- Yotpo vs Okendo
Supporting guides
- How to Choose a Shopify Product Review App
- How Product Review Apps Affect Store Conversion
Blinto service connection
- Shopify App Marketing Services
- Shopify App Development Services
- Shopify App Support and Maintenance Services
Cluster Mapping Questions
- What is the main category page?
- Which single app reviews support it?
- Which comparison pages can be created?
- Which existing Blinto pages should link to it?
- Which Blinto service page is most relevant?
- What future content can expand this topic?
Output
A simple cluster map showing the topic’s parent, supporting pages, and internal linking opportunities.
Step 8: Complete the Topic Validation Scorecard
Each topic must be scored before approval.
Scoring System
Score each factor from 1 to 5.
| Factor | Description |
|---|---|
| Search Opportunity | Potential to earn relevant impressions and traffic |
| Search Intent Clarity | How clearly the topic satisfies a user need |
| Merchant Relevance | Importance of the topic to Shopify merchants |
| Blinto Business Relevance | Connection to Blinto’s services and positioning |
| Content Cluster Value | Ability to support related content and internal linking |
| App Quality | Strength and credibility of the selected apps |
| Testability | Ability to evaluate the apps properly |
| Differentiation Opportunity | Ability to create better or more useful content |
| Founder Relationship Potential | Opportunity to engage app founders |
| Resource Feasibility | Ability to complete the topic with available time and skills |
Maximum Score
50 points
Priority Levels
| Score | Priority | Decision |
|---|---|---|
| 41–50 | High | Approve and prioritize |
| 31–40 | Medium | Approve if resources are available |
| 21–30 | Low | Improve the topic or delay |
| 20 or below | Reject | Do not proceed |
A high total score does not remove the need for human review. A topic may still be rejected if it creates trust, legal, ethical, or quality concerns.
Step 9: Check Validation-Phase Content Balance
During the first validation sprint, the content plan should include:
| Content Type | Target |
|---|---|
| Category or bulk reviews | 3 |
| Single app reviews | 5 |
| Comparison articles | 2 |
| Total | 10 |
The Project Manager must ensure that the selected topics provide:
- More than one app category
- Different search-intent types
- A mix of popular and opportunity-driven apps
- Clear internal linking relationships
- Enough variety to compare content performance
Avoid selecting 10 unrelated topics.
The first 10 pieces should form approximately 2–3 connected content clusters.
Step 10: Prepare the Topic Proposal
The SEO Strategist must complete a topic proposal containing:
Required Information
- Proposed title
- Content type
- Shopify app category
- Primary keyword
- Secondary keywords
- Main search intent
- Target audience
- Merchant problem
- Selected app or apps
- Why the topic matters
- Blinto business relevance
- Evidence or testability status
- Main competitors
- Content differentiation opportunity
- Content cluster relationship
- Relevant Blinto service page
- Topic validation score
- Recommended priority
- Estimated effort
- Proposed owner
- Proposed deadline
Step 11: Review and Approval
The Project Lead or Head of SEO reviews the proposal.
Approval Checklist
The reviewer must confirm:
- The topic supports the project goal.
- The search intent is clear.
- The correct content format was selected.
- The app selection is relevant.
- The topic has enough evidence.
- The content can provide original value.
- The topic fits a content cluster.
- The topic connects to Blinto’s services.
- The team has the capacity to execute it.
- The topic validation score is acceptable.
- The topic does not duplicate existing content.
Approval Decisions
| Decision | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Approved | The topic can move to research and testing |
| Approved With Changes | Minor changes must be completed before starting |
| Revise and Resubmit | Important information or strategy is missing |
| Rejected | The topic should not move forward |
| Backlog | Valuable topic, but not a current priority |
Approval must be recorded in ClickUp.
Step 12: Create the ClickUp Task
Once approved, the Project Manager creates the main content task.
ClickUp Task Name Format
[Content Type] – [Topic or App Name]
Examples:
- Category Review – Best Shopify Review Apps
- Single Review – Judge.me Review
- Comparison – Judge.me vs Loox
Required ClickUp Fields

| ClickUp task creation | Project Manager | 20–30 minutes |
Expected Total Planning Time
Approximately 4–7 working hours per content cluster, depending on the category and number of apps.
Planning connected topics together should reduce the planning time for individual supporting articles.
13. Quality Standards
A topic is considered high quality when:
- It solves a specific merchant decision problem.
- The search intent is clear.
- The selected apps are relevant to that intent.
- The content format matches the user’s decision stage.
- The topic has enough research or testing evidence.
- The topic supports a content cluster.
- The topic has a clear Blinto business connection.
- The content can offer more value than existing search results.
- The team can complete the work without unsupported claims.
- The selected topic can be maintained over time.
14. Common Mistakes to Avoid
Do not:
- Select apps only because they are popular.
- Depend only on keyword search volume.
- Choose 10 unrelated topics for the validation sprint.
- Compare apps with different core use cases.
- Select an app without checking whether it is still active.
- Approve a review without enough evidence.
- Claim that an app will be tested before confirming access.
- Create a category article containing too many weak or irrelevant apps.
- publish a single app review that does not provide enough depth.
- Ignore Blinto’s business relevance.
- Create duplicate topics with the same search intent.
- Begin app research before topic approval.
- Create an incomplete ClickUp task.
- Let a partnership opportunity influence editorial independence.
15. Escalation Rules
Escalate the topic to the Project Lead when:
- The app cannot be tested.
- Pricing is not publicly available.
- Merchant feedback is highly inconsistent.
- The app has serious trust or reputation concerns.
- The app has recently changed ownership.
- The app appears inactive or unsupported.
- A founder offers payment or benefits for positive coverage.
- The topic may create legal or reputational risk.
- The app requests editorial control.
- The team cannot verify important claims.
- Two stakeholders disagree about topic priority.
The Project Lead will decide whether to continue, change the format, delay the topic, or reject it.
16. Definition of Done
SOP 1 is complete only when:
- The app category has been selected.
- Business relevance has been documented.
- Search intent and keywords have been validated.
- The content format has been selected.
- Apps have been shortlisted.
- Testability has been checked.
- The topic has been mapped to a content cluster.
- The validation scorecard has been completed.
- The topic proposal has been approved.
- Roles and deadlines have been assigned.
- The ClickUp task contains all required fields and attachments.
- The task status is Approved for Research.
If any item is missing, the topic is not ready for SOP 2.
17. Validation-Phase Recommendation
For the first 10 content pieces, Blinto should prioritize 2–3 connected Shopify app categories.
Each selected category should ideally produce:
- One category review
- Two or more single app reviews
- One relevant comparison article
This allows Blinto to test:
- Broader category keywords
- App-specific keywords
- Comparison keywords
- Different search intents
- Different content formats
- Merchant engagement
- Founder responses
- Internal linking performance
- Business opportunity signals
18. Next SOP
Once the topic reaches Approved for Research, the team will follow:
SOP 2: Shopify App Research and Hands-On Testing
SOP 2 will define:
- App installation and testing
- Evidence collection
- Feature documentation
- Screenshot capture
- Pricing verification
- Merchant feedback analysis
- Technical validation
- Research storage
- App scoring
- Research completion requirements
Editorial Approval Gate — Mandatory Before Opportunity Scoring
For the 100 Shopify App Reviews milestone and future app-selection batches, app eligibility is decided before commercial or SEO opportunity.
Gate 1 — Editorial eligibility (PASS / FAIL)
An app must pass every mandatory condition:
- Active, canonical Shopify App Store listing.
- Clear category and merchant-problem relevance.
- Strong merchant-quality evidence. Prefer 4.5★+ with credible review evidence; any exception requires a written editorial rationale.
- Sufficient adoption or maturity evidence for a standalone review.
- Testable or partially testable with enough first-hand evidence for a trustworthy article.
- No duplicate or rebranded duplicate already selected under another name.
- Actively maintained; not sunset or discontinued.
- Enough product depth to create meaningful merchant value from a standalone review.
If any mandatory condition fails, the app is Rejected and must be replaced before the batch is finalized.
Gate 2 — Opportunity prioritization
Only apps that pass Gate 1 proceed to opportunity scoring. Search opportunity, Blinto business relevance, founder relationship potential, and service opportunity determine priority, not eligibility.
A high-quality app with strong merchant value remains Review Approved even when commercial opportunity for Blinto is Low or None.
Record commercial opportunity separately as:
- High
- Medium
- Low
- None
This field must never override an editorial rejection.
