Human Testing & Evidence
Testing level
- Level 1 — Full Hands-On Test
- Level 2 — Partial Hands-On Test (onboarding only)
- Level 3 — Demo and Documentation Review
- Level 4 — Research-Only Evaluation
- Level 5 — Insufficient Evidence
Merchant decision question: Can Fera’s guided setup get a small store’s review collection running without a developer, and is the $9 Startup plan enough once it is?
Realistic scenario tested: Install Fera in a Shopify admin and complete the onboarding wizard through to the recommended-plan screen.
What I tested (from screenshots and reviewer statement):
- Intro slide: “Fera sends review requests automatically — When an order completes, Fera sends requests via Email and SMS”; banner “This is a visual demo to show how Fera works. Your live store remains unchanged.”
- Choose Base Theme for Widgets: carousel, Playful Theme centred, “Choose This Style”.
- Where should customers leave their reviews: hosted Fera page vs embed form on store — embed Selected.
- Get more reviews automatically: 3/7/14/30/60 days after Created/Fulfilled/Delivered — 7 days + Fulfilled selected; single send option Email “Initial & Follow-up” (Default, checked). No SMS option.
- Choose Incentive Amount: Fixed $ / Percentage % / No Discount — Percentage, 10% off next order; “Coupon automatically generated upon submission”; phone preview subject line.
- Auto-install some Recommended Widgets: Product Detail Rating, Product Reviews, All Reviews — all ticked; “more widgets”.
- Start With Recommended Plan: Startup $9/mo, 60-day free trial, up to 100 review requests/month across all campaigns, no charges until trial ends, advanced features “(Unlimited integrations, message customization, live support, and more)”. Back / Choose Other Plan / Start Free Trial. Carousel testimonial below (not published).
- Time: “10 min for set up” (reviewer, 2026-09-23).
What I did not test: storefront widget rendering; theme app embed state; request sending/receipt; customer review form; photo/video submission; coupon issue/redeem; moderation; dashboard after onboarding; billing approval / whether trial started; other plans screen; SMS; imports; Google Search/Shopping; support.
Testing limitations: Store type/theme not recorded. Whether wizard selections were defaults or reviewer choices not recorded (article uses neutral “our run used”). Screen order inferred from progress bar (plan screen last). Red highlight boxes are the reviewer’s annotations.
Raw observations / experience: “10 min for set up.” Reviewer instructed on 2026-09-23 to write without further questions.

- Pricing model: monthly tiers by review requests/orders; listing: Startup $9 (100 req / 200 orders), Small $29 (1,000/2,000), Medium $99 (10,000/20,000), Semi-Large $199 (25,000/50,000). fera.ai adds Large $299, X-Large $599, Enterprise $999; yearly billing (Startup $7, Small $19 effective per month).

Developer Claims
| Claim | Source | Verified? | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Requests via Email and SMS | Onboarding intro; listing “SMS requests” | Partly true (corrected 2026-09-25) | Wizard request step Email only. SMS is a live beta (help article 12306412, 2026-03-03): Shopify/Wix, US and Canada only, 3rd request after emails, $5 per SMS-submitted review, monthly spend limit, phone collection required |
| Coupon auto-generated on submission | Onboarding | Not exercised | Configured only |
| Live support on Startup | Onboarding plan card | Consistent (corrected 2026-09-25) | fera.ai comparison table raw HTML: Live Human Support fa-check on Startup, tooltip “Live chat plus email”; plan sets queue priority |

Corrections — 2026-09-25
Re-verified against raw page HTML and current help-centre articles while revising the published review. Scorecard in frontmatter left unchanged; it should be re-assessed by the evaluator.
- Live support on Startup: the fera.ai comparison table marks Live Human Support and Multi-language Support as included on Startup (raw
fa-checkicons). The earlier “not included” reading was wrong, likely from a summarising fetch that cannot see icon markup. The “plan card vs pricing page support conflict” finding has been removed from the article. - SMS: not a waitlist-only feature. Help article 12306412 (2026-03-03) documents SMS review requests as a beta for Shopify/Wix stores in the US and Canada, activated after onboarding as a 3rd request, billed at $5 per review submitted via SMS with a monthly limit. The waitlist now applies to other countries. The article now says the wizard sets up email only and SMS is a separate, region-limited, per-review add-on.
- Follow-ups: help article 7967901 says the 2nd request email is enabled by default. Combined with the undefined counting rule, Startup’s 100 requests may cover about 50 orders. Added to the article with rationing controls (conditions, product exclusions, repeat-order setting) from help article 5899353.
- Listing (2026-09-25): 4.8 rating, 2,026 reviews; 36 one-star, 6 two-star, 5 three-star.
- Startup vs Small (fera.ai): Small adds Hide Fera Branding, Custom Email Domains, Product Groups, Multi-tier Incentives, Multi-store Management and AI Review Replies. Over-limit policy: “If you exceed the limits of your plan you’ll be asked to upgrade to the next plan up.”
Refresh — 2026-10-14
Re-verification and score-lift pass by the AI assistant at the reviewer’s request. No new hands-on testing; every change below comes from public sources read on 2026-10-14.
Sources read: apps.shopify.com/fera (raw HTML: rating, count, distribution, plans, badge markup); fera.ai/pricing (raw HTML: plan cards, every comparison-table fa-check/fa-times icon and tooltip, FAQ); help articles 12710657 (free trial, 2025-11-03), 6252945 and 5941748 (upgrade/downgrade, 2025-11-07), 12639997 (campaign analytics, 2025-10-27), 8195044 (average response rate, 2023-07-31), 6157448 and 6249858 (spam limits), 9649139 (Powered by Fera branding, 2025-05-01), 6399691 (repeat orders), 7967901 (follow-ups), 5899353 (automatic requests, 2026-08-24), 12306412 (SMS, 2026-03-03); listing reviews sorted newest and filtered to 1, 2 and 3 stars. Entry prices for Judge.me, Junip, Okendo and Loox re-read from their Shopify listings the same day.
Facts that changed or were corrected in the article:
- Built for Shopify: the article said Fera carries the badge. The listing’s raw HTML on 2026-10-14 shows no badge for Fera (badge markup appears only on related-app cards). Badge claim removed from the article; no claim either way pending reviewer browser check. When or whether the badge was lost was not established.
- Listing: 4.8 rating, 2,028 reviews; 3★ count fell from 5 to 4 (1★ 36, 2★ 6 unchanged).
- Users: listing still shows 2/3/5/7 users; fera.ai plan cards now show “Unlimited Users” on every plan. Both stated in the article.
- Product Groups: fera.ai comparison table marks it Medium+ (
fa-timeson Startup and Small); the Shopify listing’s Small bullets still include it. Article previously said Small adds it; now states the disagreement. - Support tooltip: now reads “We’ll answer questions for everyone if we can, but this determines your priority in the queue.” The earlier “Live chat plus email” wording is gone; article and FAQ now say “live human support”.
- Order cap: new tooltip: “The monthly order count is calculated based on the merchant’s average order volume over the last 3 months.”
- Request cap definition: tooltip: “the maximum number of review, photo or video content requests that can be sent (or received) by you per month through Fera. Imported and/or synced reviews are unlimited.” Still silent on whether a follow-up is a separate request; campaign analytics define “Requests sent” as successfully delivered requests. Counting rule remains unresolved.
- AI features: plan cards list AI Review Moderation on every plan and AI Review Replies from Small.
- Install help: pricing FAQ: paid plans get setup help; “if you’re on our medium or larger plans we’re happy to install it for you”.
- Trial: card required to start; auto-charged at trial end; cancelling removes premium features immediately; a cancelled trial cannot be restarted (12710657).
- Response rate: 8.3% average, 7.2% for Shopify stores (8195044, dated 2023-07-31). Used for the “about 7 reviews a month / about $1.25 per review” analysis, attributed to Fera and dated in the article.
- Branding: “Powered by Fera” appears on request emails and submission modals by default (9649139); hiding it is Small+ on the comparison table.
- Downgrade: may be unavailable “due to plan limits” (5941748). Not added to the article.
- Spam-report limits: 6157448’s table and its worked example disagree ($9 plan: 0.04% in the table, 0.03% in the example). Not used in the article.
Merchant feedback since 2026-09-25: no new 1–3★ reviews. A 1★ review (ABW, Pakistan, almost 2 years) was edited 2026-09-27: reviews hidden from the storefront for days without notice, support only at set hours. Newest 5★ (2026-09-30 to 2026-10-09) praise support and incentive help. Article now cites two 2026 reports of reviews hidden over a usage limit.
Other review apps’ entry prices (Shopify listings, 2026-10-14): Judge.me Free $0 / Awesome $15, no order caps listed (5.0, 48,481 reviews); Junip Free with unlimited orders and requests, Core $29 (4.8, 1,164); Okendo Free up to 50 orders/month, Essential $19 for 200 (4.8, 1,431); Loox Free up to 500 orders (lifetime total per Loox help, as recorded in Blinto’s Loox review), Convert $49.99 (4.9, 9,860). Used once in the article as dated context, explicitly not a ranking.
Article changes: fact corrections above; new Key Takeaway on review yield; reviews-per-month column in both pricing tables; “What 100 requests buy” paragraph; trial mechanics; install-help boundary; updated Startup inclusions; second quota report; dated free-tier context paragraph; trial checklist starts with the billing date; new FAQ on expected reviews; verdict bullets keyed to review yield. Trimmed repetition to keep the body at 2,982 words (Hub depth band 1,200–3,000) and Flesch 63 (same readability band).
Merchant Feedback Patterns
Read 2026-09-23 (1–3 star, newest; newest overall).
- 2026-08-31 1★: widgets disabled after email quota exceeded; dev replied (unclear notice acknowledged, 4-month refund).
- 2026-06-18 1★: crashes, widgets offline, accounts mixing; dev says resolved.
- 2026-05-04 1★: repeated billing-condition changes; no reply.
- 2026-03-26 1★: Google Shopping review feed broken for a long period; no reply.
- 2026-02-03 and 2025-08-21 1★: language overlay, translation management, review deletion restrictions; dev replied.
- 2025-12-03 1★: charged after two years on free plan; no reply.
- 2025-11-17 1★: widgets offline ~3 days; dev cited Cloudflare outage and migration.
- Recent 5★ (Jul–Sep 2026): responsive support, useful help docs, intuitive interface; multi-year users.
Missing Evidence / Questions
- Storefront rendering of the three widgets and app embed state.
- Full order → request → review → coupon → display loop.
- Whether follow-up emails count toward the 100-request cap (still undocumented on 2026-10-14).
- What happens at the 100-request / 200-order limit on Startup.
- Whether the trial was started and a Shopify charge approval shown.
- Defaults vs reviewer choices in the wizard.
What would take this review to 90+ (reviewer actions)
Hands-on authenticity (11/20) and Evidence/screenshots (7/10) are now the only areas with real headroom, and both need first-hand evidence. Estimated gains if each item is supplied and written in:
| # | Reviewer action | Evidence to supply | Likely gain |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Supply raw screenshot 1.png (intro “Email and SMS” screen), cropped | One image beside the SMS finding | Evidence +1 |
| 2 | Open a product page with the auto-installed widgets, desktop and mobile | 1–2 storefront screenshots | Authenticity +2, Evidence +1 |
| 3 | Place and fulfil a test order (shorten the delay), receive the request email, then note the request counter before and after the follow-up | Email screenshot + counter screenshot | Authenticity +3, Original findings +1 (settles the counting rule), Evidence +1 |
| 4 | Submit a review with a photo through the email link, moderate it, and apply the coupon at checkout | Moderation + coupon/checkout screenshots | Authenticity +2 |
| 5 | Confirm whether the trial started and which Shopify charge-approval screen appeared | One billing screenshot or a written note | Authenticity +1 |
Items 1–3 alone would plausibly lift the total from 86 to about 92; all five to about 95. Any order run should use a development store or a test product, and screenshots must have customer data cropped.
Editorial Evaluation
Setup is thorough and quick; value is constrained by a small paid-only entry plan, an undelivered SMS promise, and inconsistent plan information. Recommendation: trial-worthy for small stores wanting incentivised email requests; verify the loop during the trial.

Status: Publishable (80–89). Re-scored 2026-10-14 by the AI assistant after the refresh pass; this is an AI assessment of AI-written work and should be confirmed by the human reviewer or SEO owner. The refresh corrected four out-of-date facts and lifted usefulness, research depth, balance, original findings and decision clarity, which are now at or one point below their maximums. It did not change the testing evidence, so 90+ depends on the reviewer actions listed under Missing Evidence. Previous re-score (2026-09-25, 81) lifted usefulness, research depth, original findings and decision clarity from 74.
Editorial Verdict Lock
Not locked. Verdict is provisional pending human fact-check and the quality-score gate.
Founder Intelligence — Internal
- What the app does exceptionally well: onboarding bundles timing, incentive, submission location and widgets into one ~10-minute flow; 60-day trial; long track record (since 2017) and strong 5★ support sentiment.
- Merchant friction discovered: intro promises Email and SMS but the wizard sets up email only, and SMS is a separate US/Canada beta billed per review; follow-ups are on by default while the request-counting rule is undocumented; listing shows 4 plans vs 7 on site. (Live-support conflict withdrawn 2026-09-25.)
- Growth opportunities: align onboarding copy, listing and pricing page; clarify quota behaviour and notifications (source of recent 1★ reviews); publish trial length and cap-counting rules on fera.ai.
- Product opportunities: SMS beyond US/Canada and inside onboarding; clearer over-quota handling (warnings before widgets are affected); translation management UX.
- Questions for the founder: Do follow-ups count toward request caps? What happens at the Startup order/request limit? When will SMS reach other countries and the onboarding wizard?
- Blinto fit: Growth opportunity — messaging consistency and quota/billing communication are evidenced friction points.
